Netra Srikanth is a mom of three, startup founder and accomplished musician. Here's a little insight into her daily life.
Q: What does a typical day in your life look like?
Get up at 6:45 (usually still half asleep!) and rush through getting the three kids and myself ready for school or camp and finally get everyone dropped off by 8:30!
Take a half an hour power walk and jump on the train to the office (this is mainly so I don't feel guilty about the pastry I'm going to buy near the office!)
I'm at work until the afternoon, when I pick up the kids. From pickup time until their bedtime at 7, I'm pretty much busy with kids, playdates, and home stuff.
Once they're in bed, if we're entertaining (which we do about 3-4 evenings a week) our guests usually arrive and we have a fun evening! On the other nights, we eat dinner and watch TV for a bit.
Before bed, I try to spend an hour or so getting some work and planning done for the next day. I usually get to bed by around midnight.
Q: What does your role at Flipsicle entail?
As a founder, I play a key role in product, ensuring that we continue to meet our vision, finding market fit, rollout/growth strategy, and financial planning. I also handle finances, HR, investor relations, and office operations.
Q: How do you balance your work with kids, home, etc?
I try to use the hours I'm in the office as productively as I can so that when the kids are at home, I can forget about work and concentrate on taking them to their playdates or after school classes and then on home stuff like cleaning and cooking.
Raghava and I also try to make sure that we get some down time together where we aren't talking about work. It's always tempting to get into work whenever we're together, so we try to avoid that temptation by doing other things that we love together, like entertaining friends, seeing movies, or reading.
I love that I can balance being a startup co-founder with being an involved parent and having enough time for my family. I'm really lucky to be able to do all of these things and give them enough time, because they are all super important to me. I love being a part of a startup team and all of the excitement and challenges that go with it, but I also love being around for my family, knowing my kids' teachers and friends, and entertaining at home on a regular basis. I think the only thing I don't get to do which I would love to do is sleep more!
Q: What do you do to unwind and relax after a busy day?
Having friends over for dinner, cooking, reading, playing solitaire on my phone! spending time with Raghava and the kids just bumming around, going out to eat, watching a movie
I try and take a few minutes off mid-week to relax. If I feel super-tired, I leave work 30 minutes early and take my book to a coffee shop. I grab a coffee and enjoy a few minutes of fiction reading!
Q: What is your favorite piece of clothing?
These green Hue fake jean legging thingies. They are so comfortable and fit even if you gain weight!
I can wear them to work if I wear a nice top. Or I can wear them when I'm bumming around with a tank top.
Q: What advice do you have for young women who are just starting their careers?
Every job that you do teaches you a lot. Even if you end up doing something completely different, you'll realize that many of the skills and learnings that you have picked up doing other things are very helpful and invaluable!
